What is an Unplugged Ceremony?

Maybe you have never heard the phrase "unplugged ceremony." An unplugged ceremony is where guests are asked to leave their cell phones turned off and put away during the wedding. Yes, we live in a social media world. I know this. However, I believe there are several benefits to having an unplugged ceremony.

1. Your guests will be present in the moment if they aren't trying to capture pictures/video.

2. Guests cell phones won't be in the photographers pictures. And vice versa.

3. During formals, all eyes will be on the photographer instead of the couple being confused as to where to look.

I'm not saying this has to be in place for the entire wedding. But, most importantly, at during the wedding ceremony and formal portraits. You can set expectations with your guests early on about no cell phones during the ceremony. Also, ask your officiant to make an announcement prior to the start off the ceremony to remind guests to turn off their cell phones. Then during the reception and party time, let your guests feel free to capture the moments too.
